2021 Ford F-150 Review

2021 Ford F-150 Review

The mid-size pickup market is a crowded one, but the Ford F-150 has consistently been the leading seller among tough competition. Racking up enough happy owners to become Ford's best selling vehicle of all time, the F-150 remains a workhorse that boasts an enviable combination of power and comfort. The model has been completely redesigned for the new model year, and our 2021 Ford F-150 review tells you everything you need to know about the many improvements and upgrades its received.

Major Overhaul for 2021

According to Ford, over 90% of the 2021 F-150 is made to a new and improved design. The outward appearance has been tweaked rather than revamped, and retains the reassuring profile that's traditional to Ford pickups. However, the underlying engineering has been completely rebuilt around a stiffer, stronger frame for greater safety and reliability.

2021 Ford F-150 Specs: Under the Hood

The 2021 Ford F-150 is available with an almost bewildering variety of powertrains, offering every level of power you could wish for. At the entry level, a 3.3L V6 gas engine makes a hefty 290 horsepower, which is channelled through a ten-speed automatic transmission to either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

If you need even more, a 5.0L V8 gas engine makes an astounding 400 horsepower, while a 3.0L V6 diesel lowers the horsepower a little but cranks up the torque to a healthy 440lb-ft.

And lastly, there's also a new hybrid option which marries a 3.5L twin-turbo V6 gas engine with an electric motor for a total combined output of 430 horsepower and 570lb-ft of torque.

Towing Capacity

Of course, a truck's success depends on real-world capability as well as raw engine specs. Thankfully, the F-150 steps up to the plate with a towing capacity of 3,630kg in the base level, rising to a top rating of 6,350kg with the gas V8 option.

Advanced Infotainment

Half-ton trucks aren't necessarily renowned for a high-tech cabin experience, but the 2021 F-150 boasts a generous range of infotainment features. All models contain at least an 8" touchscreen display, with a huge 12" option available as an upgrade. Wireless versions of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the range, while a Wi-Fi hotspot facility and in-built navigation can both be added as extras.

And the infotainment quality doesn't end there. All F-150 models are fitted with the latest Ford Sync 4 software, which allows remote upgrades and enhancements to increase the range of features available over time.

Active Safety and Driver Assistance Systems

As you'd expect from a modern Ford vehicle, the 2021 F-150 is equipped with an advanced set of safety and driver assist features. Key highlights include forward collision warnings, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warnings with keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.

2021 Ford F-150 Review: The Verdict

It's always been clear why the F-150 is consistently the best-selling vehicle in the entire Ford lineup, thanks to its great combination of capability, comfort, and high technology. The new 2021 release takes the mid-size truck to a new level entirely, and is certain to maintain the stunning success of this most popular Ford.
