Every conceivable combination of snow, ice, sand, and dirt make up the extreme winters that Albertans are challenged with. Handling Albertan roads is a task that requires, grit, power, and technology, these qualities are all characteristic of Ford’s Intelligent 4WD technology.
The Intelligent 4WD drivetrain makes challenging terrain and conditions easy for Ford drivers. Ford’s Intelligent 4WD gives balance to the harshest conditions as it monitors traction and road conditions, ensuring that power and torque are equally transmitted on all four wheels.
The system monitors hundreds of pieces of data every second to prevent your vehicle from slipping. It measures factors such as steering wheel angle, accelerator pedal position, and wheel speeds to ensure traction is where it is needed. Paired with the additional Terrain Management System, drivers can cycle through settings for Normal, Mud/Ruts, Sand, and Snow/Gravel/Grass, as well as the Hill Descent feature which helps to navigate down steep inclines without using the brake pedal.
In normal dry conditions when the system isn’t needed, it directs all power to the front wheels to improve efficiency. Also, some vehicles can monitor when and how torque is being applied to each wheel. Select Intelligent 4WD on your vehicle’s display to have graphic bars show when and where torque is being applied!
Protip: the Terrain Management System will reset to normal anytime you turn the ignition off and back on again. Make sure to once again select the appropriate setting if necessary!
Ford’s Intelligent 4WD takes the stress of winter conditions away from the driver and makes winter driving a breeze. Shop our selection of 4WD today!
