We all love going on road trips, but sometimes you can get bogged down in every detail, big or small. “Hacks” take a normal activity or preconceived way of doing something and finds a way to accomplish it easier. In our case, we’re applying it to your vehicle and everything that comes with it on a road trip. Whether you’re taking off for a summer road trip in your Ford F-150, Ford Focus or Ford Mustang, utilize these road trip hacks from Zender Ford to get the most out of your next adventure.
Do-It-Yourself
Just because something has been serving you in your house, doesn’t mean you can’t modify it for vehicle use. Especially if you have little kids or ones of the furry variety, these hacks can be a lifesaver. You know that shower organizer that keeps all of your bathroom necessities tidy? Throw it over the back of your car seat to keep your vehicle essentials in one place. Seat belt rests, pillows and blackout window blinds can be a great help in keeping your kids or dogs sound asleep during those sunny day drives. To help keep those most important in your life satiated and safe, make up a couple goodie bags. For your kids try putting a snack, bottle of water, car wipes and some car sickness tablets in a plastic bag. For your dog try a mixture of a few treats, a brush, a toy and some first aid accessories. Experiment for yourself and make your vehicle your own test lab for your next road trip.
Technology
Road trips aren’t the same as they used to be, especially with all that can be found on your phone. Sure, you don’t have to have a paper map folded out across your entire passenger seat to navigate anymore, you have a smartphone for that, but you need to be smart about it. Make sure you save all of your maps offline so if you drive out of a service zone you’ll still be able to find where you need to go. Take advantage of the all the travel apps your phone possess. From finding the nearest gas station with the cheapest price to hotels and restaurants, there’s an app for that. We hope you haven’t been using your smartphone while driving! In today’s worlds there’s no excuse for that. You can invest in a handy premade holder or you can truly hack the system on a budget and loop an elastic band through one of your vents and over your phone to keep it safe and secure on your dashboard.
Snacks
Stopping at gas stations for snacks and supplies can be repetitive and rack up expenses quickly. So be ready and bring your own pre-prepared food. Stock up a cooler with your favourite foods (they don’t ALL have to be healthy!) and throw it in the back of your car, or perhaps even the generous box space of your Ford F-150. Stock up on utensils, napkins, condiments from restaurants and any other small items and store them in your glove compartment–you never know when you might need them!
